The Wiltshire Community Foundation was set up in 1975 to enable businesses in Swindon to help local communities thrive. It has since expanded to embrace all of Wiltshire and has spawned similar organisations across the rest of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The concept is simple:

Local giving for local needs – connecting people who care with causes that matter

Now based in Devizes in the geographic centre of the county, the Foundation provides an ‘honest broker’ service for local businesses and philanthropists seeking to fund worthy causes in a tax efficient and socially responsible way.

Using its excellent contacts in Swindon and across Wiltshire,  the Foundation’s endowment fund has grown to some £25m and is still growing. Last year it awarded over a million pounds in financial grants and provided extensive professional advice to local communities and charities.

The Foundation’s other professional services include philanthropy advice for donors, professional training & advice for communities, and the production of periodic county-wide needs analysis and annual impact reports. Based on this extensive research, the Foundation increasingly acts as an information hub and focal point for partnership working for the voluntary sector in the county.

An underlying them of its work is to give communities the funding and advice they need to become more self-reliant and resilient and to provide individuals with self-respect and confidence. It is one of Wiltshire’s great success stories – funded by  responsible businesses, considerate organisations and caring families and individuals wishing to invest in the well-being of those less fortunate across Wiltshire.
